Boardmaker is launching in Midlothian libraries with free* access for families and practitioners. Boardmaker is symbol based software that can be used with anyone who needs additional support with communication.
It can be used to create:
•symbolised leaflets/posters
•visual timetables/schedules
•social stories and more!
Launching on Wednesday 23rd January at Loanhead library the service will be rolled out to five libraries throughout Midlothian; Dalkeith, Loanhead, Lasswade, Newbattle and Penicuik.

It is often reported web site use is declining in favour of social media but our school websites on Edublog are still pretty popular. This past school year we have had over £1.3 million visits from 281,296 unique visitors, viewing nearly 2.3 million pages. Schools can use Edublogs for their website and support is available from the Learning Technology Team. Schools may also go to other providers and seek support externally.

At the First Minister’s Reading Challenge Celebration Event on 20 June 2018 at The Hub in Edinburgh, the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, presented 9 Pupil Reading Journey prizes . We are delighted to share that Noah from Rosewell Primary School was awarded the Pupil Reading Journey – Primary 5 Award for his touching entry which explained how reading had helped him come to terms with his diabetes diagnosis and made him want to write in the future to help others going through similar experiences. We are delighted that Noah’s personal achievement has been recognised. Everyone at Rosewell Primary School is very proud of all that he has achieved.”

On the evening of Tuesday 19th June, P7 learners at Newtongrange Primary School performed their end of year show, ‘School Daze’ in Newtongrange Church Hall.
The year is 2075. Billy and Becky, two eleven year-old P7s, are staying with their grandparents. Their grandparents are keen to gain an insight into their experiences of primary school – or ‘System A’ as it is now known! Billy and Becky are also eager to learn of their grandparents’ antics as they approached their high school days, back in 2018!
The children performed their scenes and songs to a very high standard and the audience were in hysterics the whole way through the show! The children worked so hard to rehearse on the the lead up to their show and our Tech Team worked tirelessly to get our set, costume, sound, props and lighting ready for the big night! Well done P7! Your teachers, parents and carers are feeling very proud!

On Wednesday 20th June, Miss Morgan, Mrs Mitchell and 5 pupils from Newtongrange Primary School headed into Edinburgh for the First Minister’s Reading Challenge Award Ceremony. We had been asked to attend the awards several weeks ago to showcase at the event and share with other schools the amazing reading journey we have been on as a school and all about our Newtongrange Book Fairies project. As one of the showcasing schools Summer (P4a), Murray (P7b) and Mrs Mitchell were lucky enough to meet Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister. Summer and Murray did a fantastic job of telling her all about the different activities, challenges and changes going on in our school to create our reading culture. The Book Fairies also made an appearance and Nicola Sturgeon was the lucky finder of one. She was absolutely delighted and got Murray and Summer to sign the book before telling us she will get back in touch to let us know what she thought of it. However there was a surprise in store… during the award ceremony itself we were absolutely thrilled to find out we had been awarded Highly Commended for the School Community Partnership Reading Award. There were over 700 entries to the competition and Newtongrange was the runner up. We were presented with a certificate and received book vouchers to spend. It was an absolutely fantastic day and we are so proud of our school’s efforts and what an achievement it was for our pupils, school and community.
