Saltersgate School Decorate an Oor Wullie Sculpture

Saltersgate School decorated an Oor Wullie Sculpture which is on display at Ocean Terminal in Leith as part of the ‘Oor Wullie Bucket Trail’ on this summer from 17th June til 30th August 2019.  Our ‘The Gater Wullie’ is located on the ground floor of Ocean Terminal in the foyer area beside Costa Coffee.  You can download an App to find all the Oor Wullies on the Bucket Trail around Edinburgh as well as Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Inverness if you are further afield!  The trail is one of the largest ever public art events to be ever held in Scotland which is aimed at raising money for all the children’s hospitals in Scotland including Edinburgh’s Children’s Hospital Charity (Sick Kids).  All the children at Saltersgate got the opportunity to contribute to decorating our sculpture and we are very pleased to have been included in this event!

Race For Life at Rosewell – Target Smashed!

Race For Life at Rosewell – Target Smashed!

Rosewell Primary and Nursery School  hosted a special event on the school’s playing fields on Wednesday 29 May as part of Cancer Research’s Race for Life schools programme.

Around 160  pupils, aged from three to 11-years-old, joined forces with parents, carers and  teachers , to take on cancer and walk, jog, toddle or run in aid of Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work.

Children dressed in pink, wore fairy wings and tutus and even Buzz Lightyear joined in too!  Pupils in the school had been using the Daily Mile sessions to train for the event.
Head Teacher , Shona Richardson reflected , “Sadly, most of us know someone who has been touched by cancer and we all have our special reasons for taking part and wanting to help more people survive.”

Initially the school set a target of around  £500 and set up a Just Giving page.  Donations came flooding in and very soon the target wasn’t just met but was completely smashed !  In total a staggering £2770 was raised for Cancer Research.

Emily Smith, Head of Events Marketing for Cancer Research UK, said: “Race for Life Schools is a fantastic way to have fun, get fit and save lives. Young people today are the generation who could see ground-breaking treatments for cancer in their lifetime. They will be the researchers and lifesavers of tomorrow. But first, we need them to be the fundraisers of today – and walk, jog and run to help beat cancer sooner.”
