The graduating class from Lyon – June 2016
Midlothian teachers were Lesley Wilson, Alison Hamilton and Anne Lovett-Kings Park Primary; Melanie Caldwell, Loanhead Primary and 1+2 Languages Development Officer, Margaret Ballantyne.
Following the success of the Erasmus+ Immersion courses last year, the number of primary teachers attending from Midlothian increased from 12 to 32! These courses are run by an Edinburgh based company called Le Français en Ecosse (LFEE) in Salignac & Lyon in France and Malaga in Spain.
As part of the Scottish Government’s 1+2 Languages initiative, Midlothian primary children are learning French from P1-7 and another modern language from P5-7. Midlothian teachers have approached this initiative with their usual enthusiasm and have chosen to attend immersion courses in order to ensure our pupils benefit from their increased language capacity and cultural awareness.
We are hoping for increasing numbers year on year which will lead to multi-lingual teachers and pupils cross the authority.
