The first heat of Euroquiz 2015 took place on Wednesday, 4th February at Gorebridge Primary. The organisers, 1+2 Language Development Officers, Kathryn Williamson and Margaret Ballantyne were delighted to welcome eight teams from Bonnyrigg, Lasswade, Tynewater, Gorebridge, St Andrew’s, Strathesk, Mauricewood and Stobhill.

The contestants were very enthusiastic and well informed! Christine Fitton, our visitor from the Scottish European Educational Trust (SEET) who run the Euroquiz, commented positively on their knowledge of the European Union. The Development Officers were gratified to see the buzz of excitement when the French examples appeared in the languages round. It was apparent from the reaction and the answers that there is a great deal of successful language learning going on across Midlothian as a result of the 1+2 Languages Approach.

There was also evidence of the success of A Curriculum for Excellence. We certainly had successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors! The pupils conducted themselves in an exemplary manner with great examples of teamwork and good sportsmanship. Congratulations to everyone involved for all their hard work and effort!

Strathesk and Lasswade battled it out for overall winner of this heat. A close competition resulted in Lasswade going through to the final of Euroquiz. This will take place in the debating chamber at the Scottish Parliament in May. We all wish them the best of luck!
